Aerium Applauds Launch of The Pilot Mind Academy, Advancing Drone Education and Workforce Opportunities in Pennsylvania

Pittston, PA — Aerium proudly congratulates Dr. John G. Duesler, JR. on the launch of The Pilot Mind, an independent drone training academy dedicated to preparing the next generation of aviation and aerospace professionals. The Pilot Mind Training Academy officially opened its doors on April 26th, in Northeast Pennsylvania, marking yet another major milestone for drone piloting education and workforce development in the state.

Dr. Duesler, a national leader in drone innovation and education, founded The Pilot Mind to equip students, educators, and professionals with the skills and vision needed to succeed in the rapidly growing drone and aviation industries.

Recognizing the critical role that accessible, high-quality training plays in building a strong aviation workforce, Aerium has committed a $20,000 investment to The Pilot Mind. This funding will support a summer teacher training program designed to give educators the tools and confidence to bring drone technology into classrooms across the Commonwealth. This initiative directly aligns with Aerium’s mission to prepare Pennsylvania students for high-demand careers and expand the state’s aviation economy.

The launch event drew strong support from community stakeholders and government officials. In attendance were State Representative Jim Haddock, along with staff representatives from Congressman Matt Bresnahan and State Senator Marty Flynn.

"Today marks an extraordinary milestone, not just for this community and commonwealth, but also as the latest achievement in the career of my esteemed colleague and friend, Dr. John Duesler," said Glenn Ponas, Executive Director of Aerium. "John has long been a trailblazer in advancing drone technology and education, transforming how Pennsylvanians—and the entire nation—utilize drones in industries such as sports broadcasting, agriculture, and construction."

Dr. Duesler’s impact is visible nationwide through drone footage captured by his teams at PGA tournaments, NFL games, NCAA championships, and NBA events. As President of the Pennsylvania Drone Association, and in his role with Aerium, he has helped shape policies and programs that are moving the field of drone technology forward.

"The Pilot Mind Institute is about more than teaching drone skills - it's about opening new doors for students, educators, and communities," said Dr. John G. Duesler, Jr., Founder of The Pilot Mind. "We believe drones are a gateway to the broader aviation and aerospace sectors, and we are thrilled to partner with organizations like Aerium that share this vision for the future."

The Pilot Mind summer teacher training program, funded by Aerium’s contribution, will provide participating educators with drones and professional development resources to integrate drone technology into their curricula.

"Empowering educators is one of the most effective ways to build a long-term pipeline of aviation and aerospace talent," added Dr. Duesler. "Thanks to Aerium’s support, we can accelerate this work and help Pennsylvania’s students see new career possibilities in their own communities."

While The Pilot Mind Academy operates as an independent entity, its mission complements Aerium’s broader goals in aviation workforce development. Both organizations are committed to building partnerships that will fuel Pennsylvania’s economic growth and technological leadership in aviation.

"Aerium sees this investment as the beginning of a long and impactful partnership with The Pilot Mind," said Ponas. "Together, we are committed to inspiring dreams, strengthening communities, and preparing the next generation to take flight."

A number of industry leaders and organizations also took part in the ribbon-cutting celebration, underscoring the momentum and collaboration behind this initiative. These included:
